2006 – The Beginning

In November 2006, relocating Australian expat Steve Spurrell contacted AFL Canada seeking information on forming a new club in the nation’s capital.  With support from AFL Canada, Bruce Parker (Central Blues) and Dave Wells of the OAFL, Steve was able to bounce the idea of a new club in eastern Ontario around and officially start to put the pieces in place that would form today’s Ottawa Swans Australian Football Club.

By late December, in the space of just 2 months, the club had an adopted name from Australia’s Sydney Swans and a dynamic website launched to officially start the recruiting process for 2007, coupled with fortnightly adverts in the Ottawa Citizen would see enough expressions of interest to get the club moving.
