2026 saw the inaugural President Award round of Swans football. Initially set for the August 8th round, the thunderstorms washed out most play, with the men’s game finishing three quarters. This was enough to select Joshua La Porta, aka Sharky, as the President Award medal winner for his consistently good play over the three quarters completed. With weather continuing to threaten, it was decided late in the afternoon to transfer the Women’s award selection to the following weeks game on the 15th. Against the Roos, Vivian Nguyen demonstrated the same consistent good performance over the four quarters and was awarded the President’s Award medal. Well done to all players, as selection was extremely difficult.
The Presidents Round has been introduced to recognize the work of the past Presidents of the club on behalf of the members, by having those Presidents vote on the best most consistent Men’s and Women’s+ players in each of their games of the round. While there are many who give up time to help with activities, the President inevitably is involved in everything that goes on in the Club, providing the leadership to ensure the club survives and functions for the benefit of the players. This means hours of work per week and sometimes guiding external and internal challenges to a resolution in the member’s combined best interest.
