Swans fall to Wildcats

The Lady Swans were hurting with several injuries and missing key players in their loss to the Hamilton Wildcats on June 15.

It was a chance for the rookies to really show what they’ve picked up as the ladies entered their third game of the season.

“Each week, the new players are showing improvement,” said coach Chris Lockhart. “I really saw Emilie Paradis and Alyssa Caissie break out this game and show that they have picked up this sport.”

Several players moved around the field, playing a variety of positions. Kirsten Bodashefsky was a key player as an on-baller, breaking tackles and kicking both of the Swans goals.

Lockhart said he was also impressed with play from Amanda Paradis and Nathalie Presseau, who were adaptable and made several impressive marks and plays each.

It was the first quarter that sank the Swans, as the Wildcats came out strong, putting five goals on the board.

“We played with more positive support for each other, and didn’t let the first quarter determine our play for the rest of the game,” Lockart said. “The goals the Wildcats scored in the next three quarters shows that the team kept their heads held high, and stepped up to try and answer a strong Hamilton squad. While there was improvement, we definitely have work to do back on the pitch in Ottawa.”

The team showed strong shepherds, but had disappointing centre clearances and need to improve on their contested marks.

Wildcats (12.9.81) defeated Swans (2.2.14) on June 15.

Goals scored by: Kirsten Bodashefsky (2)

Best on field: Kirsten Bodashefsky, Amanda Paradis, Nathalie Presseau

The Swans will continue to play a road streak, with their next game, the fourth in a row on the road, against the Blues on July 13.

The ladies’ first home game of the season will be July 27 against the Roos at the Rideau Carleton Raceway.
